Continuing Professional Development - Introduction

Presentation about the current CPD Program

Continuing Professional Development is concerned with maintaining and enhancing professional knowledge, skills and attitudes to ensure the continued high standards of professional practice.

The Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) is committed to maintaining and strengthening the public health medicine standards of its Fellows by recognising and promoting their continual improvement through the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program. Fellows will, by monitoring and assessing their own ongoing professional development, build on the skills and expertise they acquired through the Advanced Training Program.

The CPD Program is based on findings that show continuing professional development is most effective when founded on the following principles:

  • the learner identifying learning needs;
  • a choice of ways to learn;
  • a reflection on the relevance and value of what is learned in public health practice.

Objectives of the CPD Program

Support and encourage Fellows' involvement in activities for the purpose of enhancing public health standards and ensuring their practice is of the highest quality.

Demonstrate to Fellows' peers, employers, government bodies and the community at large the Fellows', and Faculty's, commitment to maintaining and developing public health medicine professional standards.

Provide a flexible and broad range of activities for demonstrating participation in Quality Improvement.
